Reigning Africa player of the year, Senegal and former Liverpool Striker, Sadio Mane headlines a 10 man shortlist for the 2022 Africa player of the year award which also include former winners Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and Mohammed Sallah of Egypt.
The only Nigerian player who made the initial nomination of 30 players Moses Simon did not make the shortlist.
This makes it the 23rd year running a player of Nigerian descent won the award, Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
The list also has Vincent Aboubabakar of Cameroon, Kalidou Koulibaly of Senegal and Guinea’s Naby Keita.
Others are Edouard Mendy of Senegal and Chelsea, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Sebastine Haller of Coted Ivoire and Toko Ekanmbi of Cameroon.
No Nigerian was also named in the Inter-club player and Young player categories.
Nigeria also does not have any representation in the Club of the year and Coach of the year categories while the Super Eagles did not make the National team of the year.
The winners of each categories will be announced on the 21st of July in Morocco on the sideline of the Women AFCON after voting by CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, national teams head coaches and captains.
