Catholic Church in Kwara closed following tension over Monarch’s worship plans

Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyetoye Olufayo II, the Oloro of Oro Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, was prevented from attending Sunday service at the Catholic Church in the Oro community. In response, he attended a service at the First Baptist Church in Oro instead.

It was gathered that the Catholic church was locked by aggrieved members of the community who were opposed to the monarch’s attendance, after learning of his intention to worship there. The land where the Catholic church is situated is reportedly owned by these community members, some of whom were unhappy with the monarch’s recent enthronement as the community’s leader.

Accompanied by loyal subjects, Oba Joel attended the First Baptist Church for the Sunday service, with tight security in place.

Meanwhile, no service took place at the Catholic church, which remained locked after intelligence revealed that certain community members were upset by the monarch’s plans to worship there. This prompted a joint security presence, including the police, DSS, and NSCDC, to monitor the situation and prevent any disturbances.
