Nigerian music legend, Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, has faced heavy criticism after confirming his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia, in a video posted on Instagram.
In the video, 2Baba shared that he and Annie had been separated for some time and were in the process of filing for divorce. However, his initial claim that his Instagram account had been hacked was later contradicted by a follow-up video where he clarified that no hack had occurred, stating, “Nah me talk weytin I wan talk.”
Following the announcement, celebrities and social media users have strongly criticized the singer’s decision to air his personal matters publicly.
Toke Makinwa, TV personality, expressed her disapproval on Instagram, stating, “This is wrong on all levels, you should be ashamed for bringing this here.” She emphasized the importance of supporting women in difficult situations and argued that such personal matters should not be shared online.
Mary Remmy Njoku, Nollywood actress, voiced her disappointment, accusing 2Baba of humiliating Annie during a vulnerable moment. She stated, “Bro, Annie has a family o! Just make sure she’s healthy and okay.”
Uche Elendu, another Nollywood actress, criticized the public announcement, calling it a betrayal and a lack of respect. “At a time like this, love does not count errors,” she remarked.
Big Brother Naija star Nina Ivy also expressed her concerns, saying that a man who seeks public validation and uses a partner’s lowest moments against them is emotionally immature.
