Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has described the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Benue State University, Makurdi, late Professor Charles Vajime as a legend who wrote the name of the varsity on the sands of history in Nigeria.
Governor Ortom spoke Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 when he led some members of the State Executive Council on a condolence visit to the family of late Professor Vajime in Makurdi.
He stated that the visit was to console with the Vajime family on the demise of the erudite Professor who touched so many lives, stressing that the Bible enjoins people to rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn.
Governor Ortom pointed out that the university is one of the most stable in the country because of the sacrifices of Prof Vajime.
He recounted how stakeholders had urged him in 2017 to pay attention to the university in order to keep the dreams of late Fr Adasu through Vajime alive, pointing out that “If Professor Vajime had not laid a solid foundation, we wouldn’t have been talking about the institution today.”
The Governor lauded past Vice Chancellors of the institution and particularly thanked the present Vice Chancellor, Professor Tor Iorapuu for the wonderful work he is doing at the University.
While praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased and for God to grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss, Governor Ortom assured the family of support of the state government to ensure a befitting burial for the departed academic.
Responding on behalf of the family, Wanger Vajime disclosed that the family was honoured by the visit of the Governor.
He described his father as someone who touched so many lives and said he was resting with the Lord.
