Charles Oputa, known as Charly Boy and convener of the defunct OurMumuDonDo advocacy group, on Thursday shed light on why the fuel produced by Dangote’s refinery appears pure white.
Charly Boy explained that the white color of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Dangote’s refinery is due to its refinement from ethanol, which enhances engine efficiency.
He noted that ethanol-refined fuel contains a high amount of oxygen, which reduces carbonation in engines and, consequently, minimizes carbon dioxide emissions.
In a post titled “Why Dangote Fuel is White,” Charly Boy wrote: “The PMS appears as clear as water because ethanol was used in its production. Normally, petrol comes in different colors: red indicates the presence of octane, green signifies a high amount of octane, and yellow means it is unleaded. The clear, water-like appearance confirms the use of ethanol, which improves engine performance and reduces air pollution.”
He praised Dangote’s fuel, calling it the best form of petrol due to its efficiency and environmental benefits.
On the same day, Dangote Group founder Aliko Dangote announced that the refinery is ready to start fuel production. He also revealed that President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council would determine the pricing for the refinery’s petroleum products.
