, who has refused to sign a new contract, has agreed to a transfer to Chelsea from Aston Villa.
The 18-year-old has had a wonderful summer, playing a key role in England Under-19s’ victory at the European Championship and scoring twice against Israel in the championship game. Only one year remained on Chukwuemeka’s contract at Villa Park, and he had turned down Villa’s requests to extend it.
As a result, the player was not included in the Villans’ preseason trip to Australia. Numerous clubs in Europe were interested in the midfielder, but out of nowhere, Chelsea announced on Tuesday afternoon that they had reached a deal to sign him and will pay £20 million for his services.
Chelsea and Villa released a joint statement that read: “Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka. The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical.”
Chukwuemeka played for Aston Villa’s first team in 15 games over the course of two seasons, however he failed to score a goal while donning the claret and blue.
