Reports are indicating that Chelsea and Roma are currently engaged in negotiations for a potential arrangement that would involve Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku transferring to the Italian side on a season-long loan.
Sources suggest that representatives from Roma have journeyed to London to hold discussions with Chelsea’s co-owner, Todd Boehly. The primary goal is to secure Lukaku on loan for a fee of €5 million.
This initiative stems from Roma’s pressing need for a striker, prompted by the unfortunate anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained by forward Tammy Abraham during Roma’s triumph over Spezia in June.
While Chelsea initially prioritized a permanent deal for the 30-year-old Lukaku, they are now open to considering a loan agreement. This strategic shift is aimed at swiftly resolving Lukaku’s future prior to the closure of the European transfer window on September 1.
AS Roma has officially announced the acquisition of Bayer Leverkusen’s forward Serdar Azmoun on a season-long loan, accompanied by an option to purchase him for €12 million.
This will mark a reunion between the striker and Jose Mourinho, under whose guidance Lukaku previously played during stints at both Chelsea and Manchester United.
