Chicago State University’s locks X page after backlash on Tinubu’s certificate

Chicago State University in the United States has shifted its X page to private after receiving inquiries from Nigerians regarding the graduation status of President Bola Tinubu. The queries come in the aftermath of a petition filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, in a U.S. court seeking information about Tinubu’s academic records at the university.

Previously accessible to the public, the university’s page is now private, displaying a message stating, “These posts are protected. Only confirmed followers have access to @ChicagoState’s posts and complete profiles. Tap a Follow button to send a follow request.”

In January 2022, PUNCH reported that the university confirmed Tinubu’s attendance. Beverly Poindexter, who manages official transcript requests and enrollment verification, indicated that further information could be obtained through the studentclearinghouse.org website.

An August 20, 1999 letter, signed by then Registrar Lois Davis, attested to Tinubu’s attendance from 1977 to 1979, during which he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Administration with honors, majoring in Accounting.

Tinubu’s academic credentials have stirred controversy, particularly following the 2023 general election, making it a subject of intense debate.
