Resident Bola Tinubu urgently files for a review of the judgment mandating the release of his academic records to Atiku Abubakar.
On September 19, Judge Jeffrey Gilbert from the United States District Court directed Chicago State University to provide Mr. Tinubu’s academic records to his Nigerian political adversary as part of an ongoing election challenge in Nigeria People’s Gazzete reports.
The judge specified that the records should be handed over to Mr. Abubakar by September 21, with school administrators required to verify all released records under oath.
However, as the school commenced preparations to release the documents, Mr. Tinubu submitted an emergency application in the district, seeking a senior judge to reassess Judge Gilbert’s order from September 19 and postpone execution until at least September 25.
Mr. Tinubu’s legal team, led by Christopher Carmichael, stated, “Due to the timing for compliance by Chicago State University – later today – Intervenor is filing this motion separately from its challenge to the Magistrate’s ruling on the application,” Mr. Tinubu’s lawyers, led by Christopher Carmichael, said. “Intervenor intends to file, by the end of the day, a substantive brief addressing the errors in the Magistrate’s decision.”
Judge Nancy Maldonado of the district has arranged an urgent hearing on this matter for 3:00 p.m. local time. Lawyers representing all parties, CSU, and Messrs Tinubu and Atiku, are expected to participate in the virtual conference.
