In response to the tragic death of Miss Chinyere Awuda at Cosmila Hotel in Awka, the Anambra State Government has taken swift action and sealed off the establishment. The incident occurred during a birthday celebration at the hotel, where some fun seekers allegedly beat Miss Awuda, leading to her untimely demise.
Miss Awuda, a resident of Nnobi in the Idemmili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was discovered lifeless in the hotel’s swimming pool the next morning after the incident. Reports indicate that trouble started when she was accused of picking up money that was being sprayed on the birthday celebrant.
There are conflicting accounts surrounding the circumstances of Miss Awuda’s death. While some claim she was accused of stealing money meant to be sprayed and fled before being apprehended, others state that she pocketed money being sprayed on the celebrant.
The Anambra State Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that four suspects, including the birthday celebrant and his friends, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
In response to the tragic event, the state commissioner for culture, tourism, and entertainment, Hon Don Onyeji, visited the hotel and sealed it off. The government is closely cooperating with the police investigation, and the hotel will remain closed pending the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
