Miss Chinyere Awuda, a young woman from Nnobi in Idemmili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, met a tragic end last weekend at Cosmila Hotel in Awka, Anambra State, where she was beaten to death by a group of fun seekers at the hotel’s club.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when Mr. Gabriel Chinemere, a well-known club-goer, and his companions initiated the assault on Miss Awuda. Despite attempts by others present to intervene and rescue her, the beating and harassment persisted.
According to sources, trouble started when one of the clubbers accused Miss Awuda of picking money that was being sprayed on their friend, who was celebrating their birthday. Other witnesses claimed that she went beyond picking money and even took bundles of money that a clubber had set aside to spray on the celebrant.
A regular clubber at Cosmila Hotel shared that some girls would dress up and come to the club to pick money while men were drunk and spraying money. These girls often managed to get away with the money they pocketed.
The situation escalated, leading the assailants to drag Miss Awuda outside the club, where they callously disposed of her lifeless body in the hotel’s swimming pool.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the birthday celebrant and his friends have been taken into police custody as investigations into the case are underway. He also clarified that Cosmila Hotel’s management assisted the police in arresting the suspects, contrary to rumors suggesting the hotel’s complicity.
The incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life. Authorities are diligently investigating the matter to bring justice to those responsible for this heinous crime.
