Chioma Ajunwa slams Nigeria’s Paris olympics performance
Chioma Ajunwa, Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medalist, expressed her disappointment over the country’s performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, calling it disheartening.
During an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Ajunwa reacted to Nigeria’s failure to secure any medals at the recently concluded Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Reflecting on the outcome, Ajunwa lamented the missed opportunities, noting that athletes had expended considerable time, energy, and resources without any reward.
“It’s deeply disheartening that every year Nigeria finds itself in this situation. If you recall, after the last Olympics, we faced a similar outcome,” she said.
“They always talk about going back to the drawing board, but we never see any results from that. It’s unfortunate that we’ve lost all our chances, and the athletes have essentially wasted their efforts.”
Ajunwa also pointed out the inefficiency in the allocation of funds, stating, “Nigeria spent a lot, but that’s not my concern because the money isn’t used effectively when it should be.
