Cholera kills 4, 36 hospitalized in Adamawa
A cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has claimed four lives, with 36 others receiving treatment in hospitals.
The Chairman of Yola-North Local Government Area, Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim, disclosed the situation during a visit to the victims at the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC) in Yola on Sunday.
According to Ibrahim, the outbreak has affected Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards.
“Initially, we recorded 20 cases this morning, but the number has now exceeded 40, with four fatalities,” he said.
He noted that many of the victims have been stabilized thanks to the swift response of health workers, the Red Cross, and international partners.
Ibrahim attributed the outbreak to contaminated water caused by recent flooding in the affected areas.
