The winner of this year’s expanded Club World Cup in the United States could earn up to $125 million in prize money, FIFA announced on Wednesday.
The total prize pool for the tournament, which runs from June 14 to July 13, had already been set at $1 billion. However, FIFA has now detailed how the funds will be allocated among the 32 participating teams.
Each team will receive a share of the $525 million participation fund, while an additional $475 million will be distributed based on performance in the tournament.
The team that triumphs after seven matches could claim a maximum of $125 million, including performance-related bonuses.
European clubs are set to receive the largest payouts, with each team earning between $12.81 million and $38.19 million, depending on sporting and commercial factors.
South American teams will each receive a participation bonus of $15.21 million, while clubs from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa will get $9.55 million. Meanwhile, Auckland City, representing Oceania, will earn $3.58 million for taking part.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the new prize distribution as “the biggest prize money ever awarded to a competition comprising a group stage and a knockout phase.”
Beyond the club payouts, FIFA will introduce an unprecedented solidarity programme, redistributing an additional $250 million to support football development worldwide.
Infantino also confirmed that all proceeds from the tournament will be reinvested into club football.
