Community volunteer guards battle kidnappers, arrest one in Otukpo

The Community Volunteer Guards (CVG) in Otukpo have arrested a suspected Kidnaper in Otukpo after battling with them, as another suspect escaped with wounds, according to their commander.

The suspect, John Ameh, (24), from Okpanehe in Adoka District of Otukpo Local Government Area, was arrested on Sunday 6th June 2021, around Dr. John Adah College Of Health Technology. The arrest followed a rescue operation by the Otukpo Local Government Community volunteer Gaurds after they kidnapped, one Mr. Dennis Nwakwara and Mr. Elaigwu Ameh.

Mr. Dennis Nwakwara was however rescued by the gallant men of the Otukpo Volunteer Guards after a battle with the kidnappers in which the Commander of the Guard was shot. Mercifully he survived the shot. In the process of his rescue Mr. Dennis was also shot on the head. The police quickly rushed him to the hospital for treatment. The second victim was taken away by the kidnappers and the police are on their trail to rescue him.

According to the Nigetian Police, Otukpo division, the suspect, John Ameh who is already in custody has confessed to the crime and presently being held for further investigation.

In another development, the Otukpo Community Volunteers Guards, recorded another breakthrough with the successful arrest of two other criminals whose specialty is breaking and entery. They were also apprehended on Sunday 6th June 2021, about 10am while they were on a burglary mission around VIP in Otukpo.
They equally confessed to have robbed other houses along Egli Avenue, Babylon and Sabon Gerri.
One of the beneficiaries of their stolen items is one Ochai Obe who is on the run from arrest at the time of filing this report.

The Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. George Alli, while reacting to the development, thanked the Community Volunteer Guards (CVG) and other security agencies for their efforts in tackling criminality in Otukpo and urged residents to always be on alert and to assist security agencies with useful information. “Remember, if you see something, say something”, Hon. George Alli intoned.
