On Tuesday morning, a heavy downpour led to the stranding of numerous commuters as it submerged many residences in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos. The rain, lasting approximately five hours, commenced around 6 am that day.
Streets and bridges were taken over by the deluge, causing significant disruptions to vehicular movement across most parts of the metropolis. Particularly affected were communities such as Abule-Egba, Command, Agege, and Egbeda in Lagos.
Emergency responders from both State and Federal agencies were actively engaged in rescuing those trapped by the flooding. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South West, officially confirmed the situation.
Farinloye urged residents of the Command Area to seek alternative routes, advising them to avoid Command and its nearby areas as flooding had overwhelmed the neighborhood’s bridge.
He stated, “NEMA, along with the fire service and police, is collaborating to evacuate people trapped in the affected area.”
