Five members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have tested positive for COVID-19 at the orientation camp in Abuja.
The capital city’s NYSC Coordinator, Walida Isa, made the disclosure on Monday, November 16, at the swearing-in of the 2020 Batch `B’ Stream 1 corps members.
According to Isa, a total of 858 corps members were tested before entry into the camp.
“The five that were positive were taken to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for treatment,” she said.
Kano State NYSC coordinator, Aisha Tata, earlier announced on Monday that two corps members tested positive out of the 826 tested.
Tata revealed that 826 corps members posted to the State had done a COVID-19 screening before they were allowed access to the orientation camp.
Recall, all NYSC orientation camps across the country were shut down in March to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Federal Government of Nigeria, on October 15, approved the reopening of camps for National Youth Service Corps orientation exercises.
Following the decision of the FG, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said that all members of the NYSC at orientation camps across the country, will be tested for COVID-19 using the new Antigen-Based tests.
