BENUE COVIK-1-9 SAGA…
Good evening Benue. Kindly accept the assurances of my highest esteeem.
As you all know, I’m neither a politician nor an aspirant. I love politics & politicians, but I think I’m too weak for what they pass through. Let me face my front jeje.
I made a post today where I used strong words against the Governor of Benue State. At the time I was high on emotions and adrenaline was in top gear. Though I brought down the post, that doesn’t mean I am apologising, I did that as a respect for friends whom I hold in high esteem.
PRESS STATEMENT
Today, the Governor called a press conference and declared one Susan Okpe as the first recorded victim of the dreaded Covid-19 in Benue State. As far as I know, that was a bold step, meaningful step but taken in haste and done unprofessionally.
Yes, if names are mentioned, the victim’s immediate contacts and would be contacts would immediately take caution to avoid the spread of the virus. But…
1. Was the test done conclusively and sent to the hospital where the lady in question was being observed? Note, she reported her symptoms by herself on her return and no one forced her to self quarantine.
2. Why not give this job of announcing the result however it is to a professional, maybe the NCDC guys or better still, the commissioner for health?
3. When was the test conducted? Note we were told that blood samples of her and a second fellow were taken to Abuja, hers returned positive, the other’s negative.
4. Who is the other person?
5. How long does it take to conduct a test result, given that this one was hurriedly done, released, announced like Presidential election in America. So fast!
6. Is she the only one qualified to be tested in Benue?
7. What about the former Governor and present minister, Akume who had contacts with Abba Kyari? Has he been tested? If yes, what’s the result like? If no, why?
8. The SSG’s son, Henry has been rumoured to be on the run from quarantine after returning from Malaysia or wherever, has he been found? Has he been tested? Has he been quarantined? If yes, what’s the result like? If no, why?
9. Leadership is by example right? Has the Governor, Ortom been tested? Has he been quarantined, has the result been made public? If yes, what’s the result? If no, why?
We’ve heard of governors declaring openly how that they wanted to be tested and when done, results are released and made public. Why is our case different?
10. Are we selecting the COVID-19 victims to be announced?
11. Are you aware that they’re just sick, they didn’t kill anyone or steal from anyone?
12. Over 50 cases declared in Lagos, how many did the Governor call a peas conference over? How many did they name in Lagos? Naming is good, but name with sense!
SUSAN OKPE THE FAKE ONE WHOSE PICTURES WENT VIRAL
In a haste to make a point, some unscrupulous elements dug out a picture of an innocent girl of maybe about 28-32 years, and sent it all over the internet, with a demeaning and unprintable caption ‘Face of First Benue Covid-19 victim’. Was that necessary? How would u feel is that innocent girl is related to you?
When I saw that dehumanizing post, I was moved with passion and something in me said, there’s is more to this than meets the eyes. Now it happens that the accused girl is innocent, now the joke is on the posters, yeah?
THE REAL SUSAN OKPE
Now judge if a woman of this pedigree will come all the way from the UK to start distributing the virus:
✅ She’s 54
✅ A chartered accountant Resident in the UK
✅ Citizenship of the UK secured
✅ She’s got two grown up working class daughters who reside and are also citizens of the UK
✅ Before jetting into Nigeria, she was subjected to rigorous tests with her kids, and found okay
✅ Upon embarking on the trip, she felt symptoms of fever or malaria and on her own reported in a hospital
✅ She avoided her own blood siblings because of the place she came from, being a red flag zone
✅ She kept to the instructions of the doctors and regained herself speedily. Even started her normal exercises already
✅ On her arrival in Makurdi, where she fell ill, her blood sample already taken on Monday, mind u, it now turned positive as reported today by Chief Medical Director Samuel Ortom. I don’t know the time it took for the results to be released, but I think they were really fast in doing their job. Well done to the team of doctors.
✅ Aunty Susan, being an elite and from UK knowing her rights, insisted on seeing her results otherwise, she won’t bulge their request to be moved in as a specimen to the ill equipped facility. But that had to change via the intervention of her big brothers and also one of them who is a doctor, telling her of the need to comply with the government as it would be her words against theirs.
✅ Note, Aunty Susan is a respected Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) UK. Now you can choose who to believe.
TRIBAL CARD PLAYED…
I read a comment under a post (I have the screenshot) where a certain woman said ‘Idoma has brought this thing to Benue’ ?
Woman, that thing has been in Benue long before now. So take caution my dear. Let’s not use tribe to kill one another.
I will do this for anyone even if you’re not from Benue. Writers don’t look at names or nomenclature or tribe, we look at humanity. ?
DISCLAIMER!
I am not saying the results are untrue, what I’m saying is, don’t politicize certain things. If you don’t want to be accused of being apolitical, allow the pros do their job.
May God grant speedy healing to all those affected by the virus, in Benue, Nigeria, and all over the world
THIS IS NOT THE END
