Corps members injured as Ekiti NYSC orientation camp hostel collapses

Some corps members posted to Ekiti State sustained injuries following the collapse of a wall in one of the hostels at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Ise-Emure, Ekiti.

The incident occurred in the women’s section of the hostel on Friday morning during the three-week compulsory orientation exercise. Sources at the camp reported the collapse.

A source explained, “Yes, the wall of one of the female hostels collapsed this morning (Friday).

It was the bathroom wall which caved in when they were planning to take their bath. But thank God, people rushed down there to retrieve them from the rubble. They have been stabilized at the clinic and will receive further medical treatments.”

An NYSC official confirmed the incident, stating that only two corps members were affected and have been stabilized at the camp’s clinic. He urged parents, guardians, and stakeholders not to panic, assuring that the incident had no serious negative impact on the corps members.

Despite long-standing concerns about the poor conditions of structures at the NYSC Camp in the state, adequate renovations have yet to be carried out.
