Court adjourns Mukaila Lamidi’s trial to January 22

The Oyo State High Court in Ring Road, Ibadan, on Thursday, postponed further proceedings in the trial of Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary, to January 22.

The adjournment followed an objection raised by the defence counsel, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, regarding the prosecution’s attempt to present Inspector Innocent Agede from the Command Monitoring Unit, Eleyele, Ibadan, as a witness.

Mr. Ojo argued that the prosecuting counsel, Mr. S. O. Adeoye, failed to provide the defence team with the summary of the witness’s statements, as mandated by Section 380 (iii) of the Oyo State Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2016.

The defence lawyer insisted that the prosecution should also furnish him with copies of photographs, Compact Discs, and other evidence intended for use in court.

In response, Justice Bayo Taiwo rescheduled the hearing to January 22 to allow the defence team adequate time to receive and review the necessary materials.

Lamidi, the former chairman of the Park Management System in Oyo State, faces an 18-count charge, including armed robbery, murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms. He is accused of possessing an AK-47 assault rifle and two SMG rifles with magazines.

The alleged offences occurred on May 29, 2023, around 2:00 p.m., at the residence of Governor Seyi Makinde in Ikolaba, Ibadan. Lamidi had pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment on November 27, 2024.

The case will continue on January 22, with both parties expected to be fully prepared for further proceedings.
