The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Makurdi Division has dismissed the suit filed by Aondona Mkor against the Benue State University, BSU.
Mkor who is said to be the Media Adviser to the Minister of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs had dragged the University to court, challenging his dismissal as a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science of the institution on the grounds that he did not sexually harass a female student.
When the matter came up for the adoption of written addresses on the 25th March , 2022, counsel to Benue State University , Mike Assoh argued that the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee of the University afforded Mkor the opportunity to be heard and maintained that the Governing Council of the University was right in recommending the dismissal of the Media Adviser to the Minister.
On his part, counsel to the claimant, Ocha Ulegede contended that the claimant was not given fair hearing and his dismissal was wrongful in law.
The trial Judge, Hon Justice Salisu Danjidda while agreeing with the submissions of Assoh, held that Mkor failed to prove his claims and that his dismissal from the university on grounds of sexual harassment was lawful.
It must be noted that the Judgment was delivered on the 31st day of March , 2022 online via zoom as His Lordship after concluding proceedings in the suit was transferred from Makurdi to the Lagos Division of the National Industrial Court.
