The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the no-case submission filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, in his ongoing terrorism trial.

Delivering the ruling on Friday, Justice James Omotosho held that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against Kanu, sufficient to require him to open his defence.

The judge noted that the evidence and exhibits tendered by the prosecution raised weighty allegations of terrorism, which could not be ignored. According to him, the issues presented, including Kanu’s claims of extraordinary rendition, make it imperative for the defendant to respond and present his case.

Justice Omotosho emphasized that affording Kanu the opportunity to defend himself aligns with the principles of fair hearing and the protection of fundamental rights.

Kanu is currently facing a seven-count charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging his involvement in terrorism-related activities.
