Court dismisses suit to remove Ganduje as APC Chairman

A Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has dismissed a suit aimed at removing Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawsuit was brought forth by the APC North Central Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga. Presiding Judge Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled that the court could not grant the group’s requests, stating that the APC North Central Forum is not a legally recognized entity and thus lacks the capacity to file the suit.

Justice Ekwo also noted that the group failed to utilize internal mechanisms for resolving disputes before resorting to legal action. He emphasized that the appointment of party officers by the APC National Executive Committee is an internal matter that falls outside the purview of the courts.

The forum argued that Ganduje’s appointment violated Article 13 of the APC Constitution, as it was not conducted through the democratic process mandated by the party’s regulations.

Reports indicate that APC leaders from the North Central region have threatened to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s second-term aspirations unless the national chairmanship is returned to their region, arguing that since Abdullahi Adamu did not complete his tenure, the position should rightfully remain in North Central.
