The Akure Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the apprehension of Agboola Ajayi, a former deputy governor of Ondo state. The court has directed Agboola to appear in court or provide his statement on November 24 regarding allegations of theft.

The accusations against Agboola involve fraudulent acquisition of a brand new Toyota Camry valued at N5.4 million in May 2018.

The Commissioner of Police had sought the bench warrant to ensure Agboola’s appearance in court concerning these allegations.

In the meantime, two former aides of Agboola, Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, have been arraigned for their involvement in the alleged car theft from Segun Adetuwo, also known as Showboy.

According to Ogunmusi’s statement, Agboola instructed him to accompany Akintoye to Adetuwo to acquire the car. Ogunmusi claimed he received a black Toyota Camry XLE from Adetuwo but left without making the payment for the vehicle.

The prosecutor, Emmanuel Tanimowo, informed the court that Agboola had not responded to invitations to present his side of the incident.

The charges outlined in the case (charge no: MA/C/2/26/C 2023) state the conspiracy to commit felony, obtaining by false pretence, and stealing, in violation of relevant sections of the criminal code and fraud-related offenses Act.

Akintoye’s counsel, Barrister Omolegbon Odunsola, mentioned efforts to settle the matter out of court by reaching out to Agboola and Adetuwo.

However, Adetuwo’s counsel, Alex Olademehin, insisted that Agboola should either provide a written statement to the Police or appear in court.

Presiding Magistrate Taiwo Lebi ordered the production of Agboola or his statement in court on the next adjournment date, setting further hearing for November 24, 2023.
