After 11 years of divorce, a customary court in Rumuogba, Rivers State, has ordered Mrs. Kate Ngbor to cease using her former husband’s name immediately.
In suit no: OCC/9/2021, Chief Sam Ngbor, the claimant, sought an order restraining his ex-wife from continuing to bear his name.
Following arguments from both E. O. Erhirhi Esq, representing the claimant, and R.U. Egwenre Esq, representing the defendant, the court ruled in favor of the petitioner.
The court determined that Mrs. Kate Ngbor is not permitted to use or be recognized by the names “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor” without the claimant’s explicit permission.
Consequently, the judgment requires the defendant to revert to her maiden name or adopt another name of her choice, provided it does not include “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor.”
The order also prohibits her from holding herself out under the names Mrs. Kate Ngbor or Mrs. Kate Sam-Ngbor in any capacity.
