A 76-year-old man, Akeem Muritala, has been remanded in a correctional facility by a Family Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, following allegations that he raped a 17-year-old girl.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal guidance.
The case has been adjourned until October 23 for further proceedings.
Prosecutor Insp. Gbemisola Adedeji informed the court that Muritala allegedly committed the crime in July in the Isale-Afa area of Ibadan, and that the defendant himself reported the incident to the police.
The charge against Muritala falls under Section 34 of the Child Rights Law 2006.
