An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ado Ekiti District, has ordered the remand of four persons in the custodial centre for offences ranging from conspiracy to stealing and attempted murder.
The defendants are Segun Ajayi (19), Ojo Ayomide (19), Seun Afolabi (12) and Banwo Joshua (17).
The police prosecutor, Elijah Adejare, told the court that “the defendants confessed that they are members of the Eye Secret Cult, which is contrary to Section 4(1) of the Secret Cult Abolition Law of Ekiti State, 2017”.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendants in their statements confessed to have conspiracy and stolen from one Sunday Peter and as well attempted to murder one Ajayi Temitope, contrary to Sections 516,390 (9) and 320 0f the Criminal Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
He said, “The offences were committed on 3rd August, 2021 around 5:30a.m within Ado Ekiti Magisterial District”.
Adejare pleaded with the court to remand the defendants and adjourn the matter to enable him forward the duplicate case file to the office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the defendants remanded at the correctional centre pending legal advice for the office of the DPP.
Oluwasanmi adjourned the case till September 16, 2021 for mention.
