Court remands man for stabbing neighbor over electricity bill

A Sharia Court in Kano State on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 29-year-old man, Abduljabar Nura, in a correctional facility for stabbing his neighbor during a dispute over an electricity bill.

Nura, a resident of Fagge Quarters in Kano, was charged with causing grievous harm by the police. Upon hearing the charges, he pleaded guilty.

Presiding Judge Umar Lawal-Abubakar directed that the defendant be held at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre until April 15, when sentencing will be delivered.

According to prosecution counsel Zahradeen Abubakar, the case was reported to the Fagge police station on February 28 by the complainant, Haruna Kasim.

The prosecution stated that an argument over an electricity bill led to the altercation, during which Nura stabbed Kasim in the back with a pair of scissors.
