Dr. Olufemi Olaleye, the Medical Director of Optical Cancer Care Foundation, has been sentenced to two life imprisonments by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for sexually assaulting his wife’s 16-year-old niece.
Justice ′′″’ as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), ruled that the prosecution successfully established the defendant’s guilt on both counts of defilement and sexual assault by penetration.
Dr. Olaleye faced prosecution on charges of defilement and sexual penetration of a minor, to which he had initially pleaded not guilty.
However, Justice Oshodi determined that the evidence presented before the court was convincing and proved the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The judge cited the defendant’s confessional statement, in which he expressed regret for his actions, made in the presence of his attorney, Mr. Olalekan Buruji, and the Officer-in-Charge of Anthony Police Station. This confession corroborated his involvement in the crimes.
The judge said that the oral statement which the defendant denied, had the Buruji’s NBA seal on it and his denial did not hold waters.
“You are dangerous offender and you must be ashamed,” the judge said, referring to the convict.
