An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2 has sentenced Jide Josiah Jisos, who falsely claimed to be a “Professor,” to six months in prison for impersonation during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Jisos was apprehended by officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at Brix Academy in Abuja, where he was posing as an observer for a non-governmental organization (NGO) during the exam monitoring process.
According to a statement from JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, Jisos initially presented himself to examination officials as a representative of an NGO overseeing the UTME.
Chief Magistrate Justice Folashade Oyekan found Jisos guilty of impersonation and sentenced him to six months in prison, with the option to pay a fine of ₦100,000.
The statement noted, “His deception was revealed when he was questioned by the leader of the monitoring team, who asked him to clarify his purpose. Unable to provide satisfactory answers, Jisos was arrested and turned over to security personnel for further investigation. During interrogation, he admitted he had no connection to any NGO and was in the examination hall to assist his daughter in taking the 2019 UTME.”
Chief Magistrate Oyekan ultimately convicted Jisos on a one-count charge of impersonation and imposed the six-month sentence or a fine of ₦100,000. The statement did not specify the exact date of the court’s ruling.
