Covenant University has once again claimed the top position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, cementing its status as Nigeria’s leading institution in higher education.
The prestigious ranking evaluates universities based on several performance metrics, and Covenant University, located in Ota, surpassed other prominent Nigerian universities.
The 2024 edition ranked 1,907 universities from 108 countries, assessing them on 18 performance indicators across five core areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
Covenant University emerged as Nigeria’s best, outperforming other leading institutions such as the University of Ibadan (2nd), the Federal University of Technology Akure (3rd), and the University of Lagos (4th).
This year’s rankings reflect shifts in the global education landscape, with more than 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications analyzed and responses from over 68,000 scholars worldwide.
Other Nigerian universities in the top ten include Bayero University, the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Afe Babalola University. The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, secured 10th place, rounding out the top tier.
