COVID-19: Benue government reportedly apologises to Susan Okpe

The Benue State government has reportedly apologised to Susan Okpe, the alleged coronavirus index case in Benue State.

IDOMA VOICE recalls that Susan, who came into the country few days ago for the burial of her mother, was bundled by the state government into an isolation centre that she was tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The state government went ahead to announce the result to the press without her looking at it.

Surprisingly, the government also announced her name on air, a development that irked her friends and family members.

The lady, however, insisted that she does not have the  disease, insisting that the state government was only playing politics with her life.

Following the outcry from her kinsmen, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs ordered her transfer to Abuja on Thursday, April 2.

However, when the lady was taken to Abuja, she was admitted at the National Hospital, instead of the isolation centre where other patients are, an indication that she might not have the disease.

Meanwhile, a source said a top politician from the government has sent message to the lady, asking her to forgive them for subjecting her to public ridicule.

“They have also sent a message to her elder brother, Chief Steve Lawani, former Deputy Governor of Benue State.

“The truth is, the governor never knew the lady was related to Ochagwu (Lawani).

“Anyway, the 14-day isolation period would elapse today and a fresh test would be conducted on her.”
