Covid-19: What Benue exco resolved

The Benue State Executive Council yesterday held an expanded meeting presided over by Governor Samuel Ortom which also had in attendance, members of the COVID-19 State Action Committee. The meeting arrived at the following resolutions as made available to the media by Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ngunan Addingi as well as that of Health and Human Services, Dr Sunday Ongbabo:

1: Council approved the release of additional N100 million to the State Action Committee on COVID-19 to curb the pandemic.

  1. N20 million out of the N100 millon will be used for the completion of an additional isolation centre in Makurdi.
  2. Council also approved incentives for health workers in General Hospitals of the state. Re-training of health personnel has already commenced, to enable them handle Coronavirus cases.
  3. Cameronian refugees: Council resolved to reinforce security at the borders to prevent incidents of COVID-19 infected persons coming into the state.
  4. Council acknowledged the donation of some food items by Stallion Group of companies as well as N1 million each donated by Benue Chamber of Commerce and MIKAP Nigeria Limited, in addition to the N100,000 monthly contribution by each member of Exco to help the state win the war against the virus.
  5. The donation of 250 hand sanitizers by Dakinda Taxis and N250,000 donated by a philanthropist, Engr. Ahembe Bam were also acknowledged by Council.
  6. Similarly, Council acknowledged the pledge made by an oil and gas firm to donate 200 beds this week for additional isolation centres in the state.
  7. The Benue State COVID-19 Response Team was mandated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a young man who returned to the state from Ghana and died on his way to Abuja.
  8. Benue people were encouraged to adhere to preventive measures against Coronavirus such as frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitizers, social distancing, among others.
