Crowd storm NIMC office in Alausa, flout COVID-19 restrictions (Photos)

Amid a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria, multitude of people on Monday, December 21, stormed the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) office in Alausa, Lagos State.

Recall, on December 15, Eons Intelligence reported that the Federal Government issued a two-week ultimatum to all mobile networks in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number (NIN).

The rush is connected to the ultimatum as Nigerians attempt to register for the NIN and beat the federal government’s deadline for SIM deactivation.

On December 16, the House of Representatives asked the NCC to extend the two-week ultimatum to ten weeks but the Commission is yet to rescind its directive.

The Lagos State Government had on Friday announced that it has banned Concerts, carnivals, and street parties until further notice. It also ordered the closure of all schools in the State due to a surge in Covid-19 infections.
