Fire destroys property worth millions at customs office in Lagos
A fire outbreak on Monday damaged the Nigeria Customs Service NCS Western Marine Command office in Apapa, Lagos, destroying property worth millions of naira.
The fire reportedly started around 10:23 a.m. in the conference room following an electrical surge before spreading to other parts of the building.
Officers on duty initially battled the flames before the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 10:45 a.m. to contain the situation.
The incident occurred as Deputy Comptroller Timothy Jonah resumed at the command to take over from his predecessor.
Jonah described the fire as unfortunate and said the command would investigate the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
He also praised the personnel who responded to the incident and worked with the firefighters to prevent further damage.
The deputy comptroller said the command would review its safety measures and take steps to prevent a similar incident in the future.
