Unidentified gunmen reportedly attacked a patrol base of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Koko, Kebbi State, resulting in the tragic death of one officer and the abduction of another. The incident was confirmed by the Kebbi State Command of the NCS in a statement signed by Public Relations Officer Muhammad Tajudeen Salisu.
According to the statement, the assailants followed the anti-smuggling unit to the Customs base in Koko, causing significant damage and leading to the death of Officer Dabo Umar and the abduction of Officer Babagana Abba Kabiru.
Naija News reports that Officer Umar’s remains have been recovered and transported to Kaduna for Islamic burial rites.
In response, the Command’s Comptroller, Earnest Iheanacho, has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased officer and assured that a thorough manhunt is underway to secure the safe return of the abducted officer.
“We will not be deterred or intimidated into abandoning our patrols or borders. Our commitment to combating smuggling remains steadfast despite these threats,” he stated.
As rescue operations continue, the command promises to provide regular updates and emphasizes that officers at the borders must maintain high standards of professionalism and safety during their operations.
