Dagrin: Fans remember late Nigerian rapper 12 years after

Fans of rapper Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly known as Dagrin, are lauding his impact in the Nigerian music industry 12 years after his death.

Regarded as one of the first to popularise indigenous rap, Dagrin became a household name, in 2009 with his hit single, Pon Pon Pon.
Following the release of his album, C.E.O in the same year, the hip-hop star proceeded to win the Best rap album at the 2010 Hip Hop world (now Headies) awards.

Unfortunately, after a ghastly car accident, Olaonipekun died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, on April 22, 2010.

On the 12th anniversary of his demise, his fans took to Twitter on Friday to commemorate his remarkable musical career.

Obaomo Obafemi said: “it’s been over a decade since your demise, Dagrin, and your name has never deteriorated in the music industry.
“Your style of music is truly impeccable. Continue to rest in peace Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun. #Dagrin12yrs.”

Another tweep, Dahunsi Olabode said: “Dagrin’s Democracy has to be one of the hardest political diss rap I’ve ever heard. Guy went brutal and curse out Naija politicians without mincing words. RIP LEGEND. RIP Dagrin.”
