The management of Dangote Refinery disclosed the price at which it sells petrol per litre to marketers on Sunday.
According to the refinery, petrol is sold to trucks at ₦990 per litre, while sales to ships are priced at ₦960 per litre.
In a statement signed by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer Anthony Chiejina, Dangote clarified that the announcement was necessary to address misinformation from certain parties. The refinery specifically refuted claims by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) that imported fuel is cheaper than fuel from Dangote’s facility, calling these assertions inaccurate.
The statement also suggested that anyone offering cheaper imported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) may be bringing substandard products into Nigeria and colluding with international traders to offload low-quality fuel in the market.
Furthermore, Dangote alleged that an international trading company recently leased a depot near its refinery, intending to blend inferior products to compete with Dangote fuel in Nigeria. It also noted that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) lacks adequate laboratory facilities to detect substandard fuel entering the country.
This explanation follows IPMAN’s recent claim that Dangote’s fuel prices were higher than other sources last week, which led IPMAN’s members to seek cheaper alternatives for profitability. IPMAN’s National Assistant Secretary, Yakubu Suleiman, made this statement during an appearance on Arise News on Friday.
