Former senate president David Mark, Tuesday flagged off the construction of three rural roads in Warji and Bogoro local governments of Bauchi state initiated by governor Bala Mohammed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mark hailed the governor for embarking on the projects saying they would give rural people sense of belonging and improve their welfare.
“The roads are pivotal to development because accessibility is key to effective governance. I commend governor Bala Mohammed for initiating these roads projects. It would help rural dwellers get social amenities and enjoy the dividends of democracy like all other citizens”. He said.
In his speech, governor Bala Mohammed explained that the road from Warji local government is 13.5 kilometers long linking Warji town to Gwaram village.
He added that those of Bogoro to lusa and Boi to Tapshin in Bogoro local government are over 11 kilometers each.
Bala explained that the three roads would cost a total sum of N7.3 billion and would be completed within 24 dry months.
The governor who expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state stressed that without such collaboration it would be difficult for his government to succeed.
He said that roads are a measure of the development of any area stressing that without good access roads, a state cannot be regarded as developed.
Earlier, the state commissioner of works and transport Abdulkadir Ibrahim disclosed that so far the present administration in the state has completed 10 roads across the state while 19 others are at various stages of completion.
