A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Godwin Acha has described immediate past Senate President, Senator David Mark as a greedy fellow who has no interest of the people at heart.

Acha also heaped the blame of under-development and backwardness in Benue South, particularly the Idoma community on Mark.

According to him, Mark, a retired military personnel, who was number three man in the nation for eight uninterrupted years had every chance and privilege to turn the constituency to ‘heaven on earth’ but that for his ‘selfish interest, he decided to look the other way and enriched his pocket instead.
Acha made this statement last weekend in Asa, Otukpo area of Benue State during a reception organized in his honour after returning from self-imposed exile to United States.
The APC chieftain recalled that he nearly lost his life when he came out to challenge a politician who wanted to grab the land of his people in the village.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the reception, Acha, a son of former military warlord observed that as long as Mark remains in power, the Idoma community would remain stunted.
“How did we get here? For sixteen years, a man occupied a seat and he has nothing to show for it. Can even Mark and his praise singers drive along this Otukpo township road and be bold to call it their home town? This is pure wickedness. We are both from the same village but I am ashamed to identify with his failed leadership style.
“For sixteen years as the senator representing Benue South, he has nothing to show for it. You won’t believe that pupils of the only primary school in Akpegede, Mark’s village sit on bare floor to receive lesson. I am not castigating him; if you care I can take you there to see things yourself. I have been to Udi, Ike Ekweremadu’s village and was moved to tears because of what he has done for his people. What then is our pride that we have a son who was number three man in the nation for eight years?”
“Instead of attracting development to our land, he instead plundered the land. As long as he remains there, don’t expect any meaningful development in our land,” Acha fumed.
When reminded that Mark is sponsoring several students through his scholarship scheme, Acha said, “You call that scholarship? Now let me shock you. The scholarship ‘scam’ form goes for N500. Now, if 10000 students acquire the form, that is 5,000,000‎, and they would end up picking only 300 students who receive N20, 000 yearly. This is total scam and not scholarship scheme.”‎
On the current administration of Samuel Ortom, the APC chieftain said the governor might have his own bad sides but was far better than the former governor, Gabriel Suswam.
According to him, few weeks after assuming office, the people of Otukpo were able to have portable water after many years of drinking from the mud.
He called on residents of the community to pray for the current leadership of the APC in Benue and the nation at large, nothing that the desired change doesn’t happen over night.
“Rome, they say is not built in a day. We need to be patient and pray for this government, the desired change will come,” he added.
