Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has expressed shock and sadness over the untimely death of the Senator representing Osun West senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber, Senator Isiaka Adeleke .
Reacting to demise of Adeleke today , Senator Mark said: ” I am shocked and saddened by the sudden demise of my colleague, Senator Isiaka Adeleke . It is just devastating that he is no more.
He stated: ” Senator Adeleke was a peace maker. He always craved for peace , equity , justice and national unity. Whenever we had challenges and tension in the Senate, Adeleke was always a ready hand to calm frayed nerves .

“A highly principled , focused and resourceful parliamentarian, he always identified with the ordinary people . He fought for the welfare of citizens without compromise . He practiced inclusive politics that provided the greatest benefit to largest number of his constituents.
” For him, politics is noble, a game and a call to serve without bitterness”.

In Adeleke, Senator Mark stated that the Senate and indeed the nation lost a detribalized parliamentarian and one of the best mangers of our democratic project.
He remarked that Adeleke will be remembered as the first civilian governor of Osun state who laid the foundation for the development of the state.

As a respected parliamentarian, Senator Mark added that ” Adeleke always deployed wisdom and diplomatic strategy to drive home his points needed to provide dividend of democracy to his people.

” We shall miss his robust contributions to parliamentary debates .
 We shall miss his unbiased contributions to national issues. We shall miss his humours that were always laced with proverbs”.

Immediate past President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has commiserated with the government and people of Edo state over the demise of the two time governor of the defunct Midwest and later Bendel State, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia .

General Ogbemudia was military Governor of Midwest and later Bendel state and was elected civilian governor of the state in the short-lived second republic of 1983 under the defunct National Party of Nigeria ( NPN).

Senator Mark in a condolence message to the government and people of Edo state described late Ogbemudia as a progressive leader who laid the foundation for the present day Edo and Delta states.
Senator Mark noted that Ogbemudia was a patriotic and detribalized NIGERIAN who was among senior military officers that stood to be counted in the fight to keep the nation indivisible .

He noted the landmark legacies of Ogbemudia to include but not limited to the establishment of the University of Benin, Ogbemudia stadium as well as Bendel textile mill among others.

Senator Mark therefore enjoined the governments of Edo and Delta states to immortalize Ogbemudia in recognition of his contributions to national development .

Ogbemudia , he noted, will be remembered for his political sagacity, bravery, wisdom and as a very successful manager of men and resources..
