David Ntekim-Rex a young tech developer who just passed out from NYSC last year was robbed and shot by armed robbers on his way back from work on Friday night.
The incident occurred around 8Pm at Jibowu area of Lagos.
According to a Barr Chukwudi Iwuchuchu, as at the time the police were called, David hadn’t died yet.
“The police stood and watched as he gasped for air. They took pictures instead, and were more concerned with why he – a tech guy- was carrying a laptop,” the eyewitness said.
It was gathered that the David was taken to the military hospital around the area but the nurses ignored him.
“The doctor came around and kept asking who they all were. It took a senior nurse to come out and start checking for a pulse. He had lost a lot of blood at this point.”
The eyewitness also said police then took David and his family to Sabo, where they looked for the laptop that he had on him instead of giving them a police report.
“The police officers were drunk and kept being unreasonable.”
The eyewitness said it was later around 12:20am that the police released David to his family for treatment.
“He was finally released to his family, and they got to LUTH around 12:30am.
David wasn’t attended to by the doctors at LUTH. He was there till the family was convinced he couldn’t be alive because he had no pulse. The doctors refused to administer any test to see if he was alive.
And that was how David died. ”
The eyewitness lamented that the late David had hopes, dreams and aspirations of what he wants to do with his life but all that gone because Nigeria failed him.
Ntekim-Rex, according to a 2018 statement by IBM, had beaten 17,000 others from around the world, including finalists from Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Nepal, and the United States to emerge as the co-regional winner of the annual Master the Mainframe competition, organised by AngelHack and IBM Z Academic Initiative.
The deceased, who was described as a tech guru by friends, bagged several certificates and accomplishments before graduating from the Department of Systems Engineering at the University of Lagos in 2019.
At the time of filling this report, the police have not yet responded to any of the accusations leveled against them concerning David’s death.
