Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has penned a heartfelt apology to his fans in Delta state who were left disappointed by his absence at the Warri Again event held on October 6, 2023.
Davido found himself in the midst of controversy regarding his no-show at the Warri Again event, organized by Amaju Pinnick. According to the former president of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, the organizers had paid Davido $98,000 and even arranged a private jet for him at a cost of $18,000 to transport him to Delta State for the event. However, Davido failed to honor his commitment despite having previously agreed to the date and accepting the payment.
Davido responded to Pinnick through a series of posts on Twitter and his Instagram story. In these posts, he accused the former NFF boss of being a corrupt football administrator, citing issues related to unpaid salaries and allowances for Nigerian footballers during his tenure.
Amaju Pinnick had earlier stated that Davido would not be welcome back in Delta state, to which the award-winning megastar replied defiantly, asserting that no one could prevent him from performing anywhere in Nigeria.
In his apology on his Instagram story, Davido explained that he had informed the Warri Again organizers in advance about his inability to attend the show due to a scheduling conflict with his concert in New Zealand. Despite this, the organizers went ahead and promoted the event using his name. Davido extended his sincere apologies to his disappointed Warri fans and pledged to bring his “Timeless Xperience Concert” to Delta State in the near future.
Following the release of his record-breaking fourth album ‘Timeless,’ Davido hosted the Timeless concert at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. With his promise to fans in Delta State, it appears that a second stop in Nigeria for the concert might be in the works.
