Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, extended his congratulations to Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala on their nominations for the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards.
On Wednesday, the organizers unveiled the nominees for both the men’s and women’s categories of this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Victor Osimhen, the first Nigerian male footballer to be shortlisted since 1999, finds himself in competition with football luminaries like Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski, and 24 others.
As for Asisat Oshoala, a previous nominee in 2022, she aims to outshine 29 other talented players to secure the coveted award.
Davido, in response to these remarkable nominations, shared images of Osimhen and Oshoala alongside the Nigerian flag on his social media platform.
In the previous season, Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s first league title win since 1990, claiming the top scorer position with an impressive 26 goals.
On the other hand, Oshoala made significant contributions as Barcelona clinched both the Spanish league and the UEFA Women’s Champions League titles during the last campaign.
The victors of the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards in both the men’s and women’s categories will be announced at a ceremony in Paris, France, scheduled for Monday, October 30.
