Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has clarified his vested interest in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
According to DAILY POST, there was a significant turnout across Edo State on Saturday as residents cast their votes in the off-cycle gubernatorial election.
Davido has actively criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on X, raising concerns about alleged malpractices during the election.
His involvement has prompted questions about his connection to the election, given that he is not from Edo State. In response, Davido addressed these inquiries on his X account, revealing that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, hailed from Edo State.
He emphasized that, beyond his family ties, he believes all Nigerians should be concerned about the electoral process.
Recalling his previous advocacy during the Osun State gubernatorial election, where his uncle, the current Governor Ademola Adeleke, was a candidate, he wrote, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned. @inecnigeria, shame on you! I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”
Davido had previously endorsed PDP candidate Asuen Ighodalo for the Edo gubernatorial election through an Instagram post.
