Agbenu JamesPopular activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed that singer and social media sensation, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, is currently being detained by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.
Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja, where he has remained in custody. According to Adeyanju, the arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy. However, specific details of the petition have not yet been disclosed.
Adeyanju shared this update in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, writing: “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington. He narrated how he was arrested in Lagos last Friday, moved around, and eventually brought to Abuja, where he has been in detention. The petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm.”
Earlier, social media influencer Constance Nwogu had raised an alarm regarding Speed Darlington’s disappearance. In a message shared on her Instagram page on Monday, Nwogu expressed concern about his whereabouts, stating that he had been unreachable for three days.
“It has come to our notice that Speed Darlington (Akpi) has been missing for three days now,” Nwogu wrote, highlighting the absence of his usual frequent online activity. Speed Darlington’s last post on YouTube was on October 4, while his last Instagram post was made nearly a month ago on September 8.
Nwogu suggested that his disappearance might be linked to a recent video where Speed Darlington allegedly questioned the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy win and made remarks involving music mogul Sean Combs (P Diddy).
Amid these speculations, Burna Boy took to X on Tuesday, writing cryptically, “Who’s missing?” However, it remains unclear whether this was a reference to Speed Darlington’s situation.
Nwogu urged the public to share any information that could help locate the entertainer, assuring followers that updates would be provided as new details emerge.
As of press time, the police have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
