Dele Momodu, a former presidential candidate and prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly criticized the judges of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). Momodu, who had actively supported the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 presidential election, accused the judges of distorting the nation’s Constitution.
The PEPT ruling, issued on Wednesday, affirmed that President Bola Tinubu had convincingly won the 2023 polls. In response, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, both of whom had contested the election, approached the Tribunal to challenge the declaration of Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Expressing his astonishment and disappointment with the PEPT’s decision, Momodu stated that the judges had blatantly and intentionally disregarded the Constitution. He lamented what he perceived as a lack of historical awareness and concern for the consequences of their actions.
In a message shared on the platform X, Momodu conveyed his belief that those responsible for the ruling should be pitied rather than condemned, emphasizing his hope for a free Nigeria.
Reacting, Momodu said, “I watched in utter amazement and wonderment how our Constitution was brazenly and deliberately turned upside down by those who lack a sense of history and care less about the verdict of history.
“What all men and women of good conscience should have for them is pity and not anger… NIGERIA SHALL BE FREE…,” Momodu wrote on X.
