A Delta Air Lines regional jet flipped upside down while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday amid strong winds following a snowstorm, leaving 18 people injured.
Flight DL4819, operated by Delta’s Endeavor Air subsidiary, was en route from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with 76 passengers and four crew members on board.
Among the injured were three people in critical condition, including a child, while 15 others were also hospitalized. Some of the injured have since been released, according to Delta’s statement on Monday evening.
The aircraft involved was a 16-year-old CRJ900, manufactured by Canada’s Bombardier and powered by GE Aerospace engines. Video footage from the scene showed the plane upside down on the snow-covered tarmac, with at least one wing detached from the aircraft.
Canadian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, which remains unknown.
