Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued two kidnapped victims from their abductors’ hideout in a forest at Umunede, Ika North East Local Government Area.

Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, announced the successful rescue during a press briefing at the State Command headquarters in Asaba. He revealed that the two victims had been abducted along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.

“On August 31, 2024, around 2:50 am, following credible intelligence regarding the kidnapping of two individuals on August 30 along the Asaba-Benin Expressway, I directed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad to ensure the victims’ rescue and apprehend the suspects,” Olufemi stated.

The anti-kidnapping squad launched a sting operation in the Umunede forest, where the victims were being held. On sensing the police’s approach, the kidnappers abandoned the hostages and fled.

The rescued victims have been reunited with their families, and a Dane gun along with ten rounds of live cartridges was recovered from the scene. Efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
