Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the visionary creator of the Nigerian flag, has passed away at the age of 87.
The sad news was shared by his son, Akinkunmi Akinwumi Samuel, who announced the demise through a heartfelt Facebook post on Wednesday.
In his post, Samuel wrote, “Life is indeed transient; I can say boldly you lived a life with a landmark. Continue to rest on, my father! Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi (O.F.R) Great Man has gone.”
Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi gained international recognition when his design for the Nigerian flag was chosen, earning him a reward of 100 pounds from the government.
In recognition of his remarkable contribution, he was also bestowed with the prestigious MON (Member of the Order of the Niger) Award by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
